Jason Mann is a high energy and success driven senior executive who serves as President & CEO of Life and Specialty Ventures (LSV), a holding company formed in 2005 as a joint venture between Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida and Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Mann has extensive experience in the Insurance and Healthcare industries with a unique blend of business strategy and operational execution, best exemplified by his success at LSV.
LSV partners with Blue Cross plans across the country, and offers groups and individuals ancillary insurance products (dental, life, disability, and worksite) through its subsidiary USAble Life and affiliate Florida Combined Life. LSV insures more than 1.1 million members, generates in excess of $400M in annual premium, has approximately 600 employees and is licensed to sell its products in 48 states and the District of Columbia.
Since recruited to lead LSV during its formation in 2005, Mann has more than doubled company revenue to $400M from $173M and simultaneously led the company through transformational changes. He began this process by developing LSV’s mission and vision. To develop strategies for growth, Mann initiated an extensive assessment to determine the capabilities of each entity forming the new LSV, relative to the needs of the marketplace. This effort was culminated with a three-year plan that would align marketing strategies to support its Blue Cross plan partners, and modernize each aspect of the company’s functional operations including a ‘best in class’ workforce.
In 2008, Mann’s success was further recognized when three additional Blue Cross plans chose to join LSV as equity partners, creating greater distribution capabilities and economies of scale. Mann attributes his success to his ability to identify and build strategic alliances. For the future, Mann anticipates three-fold growth to $1.5B by expanding the company’s partnership-base and integrating dental and disability benefits with traditional health insurance to improve patient outcomes.
In addition to reaching historic revenue and profit under Mann’s leadership, LSV has received extensive national recognition. Best’s Review, a monthly insurance news magazine, named USAble Life in the “Top 25 Life Companies for Group Life Issued” in 2008 and in the “Top 200 Life/Health Writers for Admitted Assets” in 2007. In 2008 the company was also recognized for its “A” rated financial stability from A.M. Best and Standard & Poor’s. Mann’s leadership also helped the company achieve national recognition from Ward Group® to its “Ward’s 50” list of top performing life-health insurance companies for the third year in a row, beginning 2007.
Mann started his career as an entrepreneur. He founded, developed and successfully sold three businesses, each providing administration and/or personnel services for insurance companies. In 1993 Arkansas Blue Cross recruited Mann to manage provider contracting, based on his unique ability to identify and align common contractual interests. Prior to joining LSV, Mann was promoted to Southwest Regional executive for Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield. In recognition of his entrepreneurial experience, Mann was charged with establishing this new region. As founder he served as President of Southwest Health Link L.L.C., a fifty-fifty partnership between Arkansas Blue Cross and Christus St. Michael Health System. Mann grew the regional operation to $125M in annual premium, attributing the success to the joint venture and his ability to recognize and develop strategic alliances.
Mann graduated from Baylor University earning a Bachelor of Business Administration and later a Charter Life Underwriter designation from American College. Mann also regularly attends executive education programs from renowned universities. He serves as Ex Officio board member for LSV and is a voting board member for LSVs subsidiary USAble Life and affiliate Florida Combined Life. Mann is also very active in the community, including Little Rock's First Baptist Church.
