A nationally recognized executive in the Dental industry, Dr. Joseph Errante, has broad experience and contacts having built, operated and sold leading dental benefit businesses and large group dental practices. Errante has a unique blend of business strategy and operational knowledge combined with demonstrated entrepreneurial abilities that have driven success throughout his 30-year career. Whether in a publically traded company with a multi-state footprint, in start-up or turn-around situations, Errante has demonstrated exceptional ability to build profitable, growing businesses with customer focus and engaged team environments. He is considered a strong leader in the Dental industry, having served as President of the American Academy of Dental Group Practice.
Errante is uniquely qualified for his role at Life and Specialty Ventures L.L.C., (LSV) and its affiliated company, USAble Life by way of his Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA) experience. In his position as Vice President, Dental Blue for BCBSMA, he has led the Dental Business’ transformation from a shrinking business that was considered for divestiture into the fastest growing revenue stream at BCBSMA. After several years of declining membership and shrinking revenue, the BCBSMA dental business ended 2005 with 357K members. However by assembling a dedicated and motivated team, Errante executed a strategy that has resulted in growth of 15% to 20% per year with over 600K members by the end of 2009. His determination and ability to develop and drive teams to success coupled with a keen understanding of customer value propositions and an ability to create and articulate visions that engage other leaders have been integral to this success.
The business foundation of Errante’s success began following five years of clinical practice of dentistry, with an entrepreneurial spirit he acquired a dental insurance company in Arizona that was about to be dissolved. During the subsequent 11 years he and the team that he had assembled built the organization into the largest dental benefits company in the state, at which time he monetized his asset through a sale to a national dental insurance company. During this same period, he began to build what was to become the largest group dental practice in the Arizona. The combination of these two companies enjoyed great success and status as the largest vertically integrated oral health enterprise in the state.
After the sale of the dental benefits company, Errante focused on expanding his group dental practice and with other group dental practices nationally, was instrumental in the formation of American Dental Partners, Inc. (ADPI). In 1998 ADPI had an IPO and subsequently made more than 50 acquisitions during the next five years. Errante was instrumental in the successful integration of each acquisition and responsible for continuing operations. His entrepreneurial ability was further demonstrated when he was given the additional responsibility of business development at ADPI. Errante was integral to the development of several adjacent businesses including a Dental Third-Party Administrator, a Group Purchasing Organization and a Dental Benefits Company. Subsequently, ADPI has grown to be one of the largest Dental Practice Management firms in the country.
Errante graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and from the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry with a D.D.S. degree. He serves on several Foundation Boards involved in Access to Healthcare and Dental Education, as well as National Advisory Boards and Industry Task Forces. He has also been very active in community programs such as Kiwanis and the American Cancer Society.
In his free time, Errante enjoys sailing, gardening and traveling internationally with his family. He also keeps many of his family’s traditions alive through preparing special holiday meals.
