Edward Murphy is Executive Vice President, Dental for Life & Specialty Ventures (LSV), a Little Rock, Arkansas-based holding company that owns and operates USAble Life of Little Rock and Florida Combined Life of Jacksonville, Florida. The combined entities have more than 500 employees and cover more than 2.7 million members.

He is currently responsible for LSV’s Dental Programs Management area which comprises four functional areas—network, product and sales support, operations and clinical management—in support of LSV’s six Blue Cross plan partners—Arkansas, Florida, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Tennessee and Pennsylvania/Highmark Inc.

Prior to joining LSV, Murphy co-founded Dental Benefit Providers (DBP) and grew it into the seventh-largest oral health insurer in the United States, covering more than 3 million individuals. When DBP was acquired by UnitedHealth Group, Murphy served as chairman and CEO of Specialized Healthcare Services (now OptumHealth) – UnitedHealthcare Dental and sat on the parent company’s executive council. In 2006, Murphy co-founded Preventive Medicine, a health informatics company dedicated to health and well-being, which uses a proprietary health and behavioral change model based on e-learning technology. Murphy has served as a board member of the National Association of Dental Plans (NADP) for six years, serving as chair for three years.

Murphy is a graduate of The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina and has completed graduate work at George Washington University. He also served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He is an active civic leader, patron of the arts and currently finance committee chairman and board member of FreshFarm Markets, a non-profit organization that establishes and operates organic and sustainable farmers markets in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia.
